NBA Weekly: Shaqovic, Boston Celtics Trade Rumors, Minnesota Timberwolves, & More

Shaq: Here are some more reasons why Shaq might be my favorite athlete of all-time:

- Q: What would you do with a time machine?
A: Go to the cloning era, clone myself 20 times, and put myself in America as 20 different people. One Shaq would be a banker. One Shaq would be a sheriff. One Shaq would be a race car driver. One Shaq would be a prince. One Shaq would be Spanish. We'd all be here at the same time, and every once in a while I'd meet myself. (Ball Don't Lie, via Men's Journal)

- Shaq has blessed us with his latest nickname: now calls himself Shaq-ovic “because if you go around the League anybody with the last name ‘vic’ is a great shooter.” This was after he claimed to finally find the cure to his free throw ills (he went 12-12 over the course of two games). Of course last night, he came back to America (from Eastern Europe) a little with a 6-11 performance from the stripe. (SLAM Online)

- Our favorite Shaq story of the year though, is Steve Kerr’s account that the Diesel often goes to Wal-Mart following home games, picks up some items… and anyone else’s bill that happens to be standing in line! (SLAM Online)

Shaq is definitely one of a kind and I can't see how anyone can hate this guy.

Boston Celtics Trade Rumors: Word on the street is that Paul Pierce would like another shooter off the Celtics bench and I agree with that thought 100%. Ken Berger of CBSSports.com floats the idea of Mike Miller going to the Celtics and since we know Minnesota and Boston like to make trades, I could actually see this happening. They would still have Tony Allen on the bench to matchup defensively with opposing teams 2's and 3's, but if it was offense and shooting they were looking for they could play Miller instead. The only problem I see here is that Miller has actually been struggling this season with injuries and it looks like its affecting his performance as well(5.5 points, 30.3% FG in in January). Also, rumors about the Celtics wanting to trade for J.J. Redick are in fact untrue. I wouldn't be surprised if the Celtics try to go after OKC PG Earl Watson though.

Minnesota Timberwolves: The T-Wolves are showing signs of life having won 7 of their last 10 games by beating up on some of the other weaker teams in the NBA. I counted around 18 more games against teams with sub-.500 records for Minnesota. I figure with 45 games left this season, the most they will win is probably 22 or 23 games. That would leave them close to 35 wins, which would be the most by a T-Wolves team that didn't have Kevin Garnett on it. In fact, they have never even won 30 games in a season without KG, so I think that is something for this team to shoot for. As sad as that sounds, it would still be progress. 19 more wins and they would have done something no other KG-less T-Wolves team has done, so I guess that is a step in the right direction, even if it's a tiny one.

Other NBA News:

- The Orlando Magic broke the NBA single game record for 3-pointers by nailing 23 of 37 treys against the hopeless Sacramento Kings. The previous record was 21 3's by the Toronto Raptors. I still think the Orlando Magic are going to give the Celtics & Cavs problems in the playoffs.

- Tracy McGrady will sit out for 2 weeks to rest his sore knee. What does this guy have to do to get healthy? It's going to be tough for the Rockets to make noise in the playoffs when it's quite possible that McGrady won't be at full strength. However, the Rockets also do a great job at finding cheap talent(Von Wafer, Aaron Brooks, Carl Landy) that should keep them winning games in the regular season even without McGrady. Speaking of McGrady, turns out that Yao is sick of him and wants him traded, which does not surprise me one bit. He's always hurt and I've never seen him as "that guy" that can lead your team deep into the playoffs. Even when Paul Pierce played on some not so great Celtics teams, they still made the Eastern Conference Finals and won some other playoff series.

- Kurt Hinrich has finally returned from his thumb injury, so it should be interesting to see how he fits in with the Bulls now that Derrick Rose has pretty much taken over as the team leader.

- Yi Jianlian broke his right pinky finger and could miss up to a month of action. Hopefully that means Yi won't end up passing KG in All-Star Game votes. That would be pathetic.

- New York Knicks first round pick, Danilo Gallinari, is back practicing with the Knicks and should return to game action soon. I'm actually interested in seeing how this guy plays. I still think he's gonna be a stiff though.

- Maxim rates the top 10 players who are most like Michael Jordan, with the # 1 choice being the most likely to be the next MJ. We all know there is no next MJ though.
