NFL Weekly

NFC West: The Seahawks are getting killed by injuries this season and it looks like their season could be finished early this year. Seattle has lost their top 3 WR to injury and one of their replacements, Logan Payne, went down on Sunday; so they are now without their top 4 WR. Having lost to Buffalo and San Francisco, it looks like it is going to be a long season for the Seahawks and in my mind this opens things up for the Arizona Cardinals to win the division. Arizona has looked good in their first two games, especially Kurt Warner, who has thrown for 558 yards and 5 touchdowns and has shown his old MVP form so far this season. Sure, the 49ers and Dolphins aren't the best competition to judge them against, but I still think the Cardinals are going to be the best out of what is a weak group in the NFC West.

Matt Cassel: It's pretty obvious that Matt Cassel is no Tom Brady, but he actually has played well so far, and led the Patriots to a big victory over the Jets. Cassel has played well enough for me to believe he can be effective in leading the Patriots for the rest of the season. He is not going to put up huge numbers but he should be able to effectively manage the game and that is all the Patriots need him to do in order to win 10 or 11 games. Cassel has been efficient so far this season, completing 29 of 41 passes for 317 yards passing and 2 touchdowns.

New York Jets: The Jets did not look very good offensively on Sunday against the Patriots. Brett Favre was not very effective and it may take some time for him to be comfortable with the offense. I definitely did not like what I saw from the Jets and they have a huge game coming up in San Diego on Monday Night. I think San Diego needs that game badly and is going to beat the Jets and that would put them at 1-2. Buffalo plays Oakland at home in Week 3, while the Patriots play the lowly Dolphins at home as well. It's very possible that both the Bills and Patriots will start the season 3-0, which would leave the Jets facing a 2 game deficit in the division early on if they can't knock off the Chargers in San Diego. Brett Favre and the Jets offense is definitely going to have to step it up a notch if they plan on making the playoffs this season.

Other NFL News:

- Aaron Rodgers continues to impress me with his play at QB for the Packers after leading the Packers to victory over the Lions. He lit up Detroit for 328 yards passing and 3 TDs. Green Bay looks like they are going to be tough to stop offensively and I expect their defense to play better then it did against the Lions in Week 2. Green Bay looks like they are going to be one of the better teams in the NFC once again.

- Darren McFadden rushed for 164 yards and a TD against the Chiefs after Justin Fargas went down with an injury. McFadden has been impressive in his first two games and it might not be long before McFadden is one of the better running backs in thr NFL.

- Marques Colston had surgery on his left thumb and will be out 4-6 weeks. This is a huge loss for the Saints because Colston is their only big time play making receiver. The Saints also lost Hollis Thomas to an injury and released him.

- Shawn Merriman decided to have season ending surgery on his knee and it's no surprise that Chargers defense has been suspect without him so far. They don't seem to be able to get any pressure on the QB right now.

- Terrell Owens moved into second place all-time in TD receptions by catching 2 touchdowns and now has 132 for his career. Jerry Rice is the all-time leader in TD receptions with a ridiculous 197.

- Roy Williams of the Dallas Cowboys fractured his arm and could miss at least three games.

- Bad new for the Cleveland Browns' already banged up defense, because DE Robaire Smith is potentially out for the season, after hurting his Achilles against the Steelers.
