MLB Weekly: Orlando Cabrera Signs With A's, Andruw Jones Struggling, Jorge Posada, Curt Schilling, & More

Not much news this past week other than spring training games starting, so here's just a quick rundown on some minor injuries and signings:

- Orlando Cabrera signed with the A's and will be their everyday SS. I think this team will give the Angels are run for the division this year if they can get a strong showing from their starting pitching. The A's are also closing in on a deal with Nomar Garciaparra, who should be excellent as a utility infielder.

- Jeremy Bonderman was sent back to Detroit because of shoulder concerns. Whether he's healthy or not, I still don't like the Tigers starting pitching.

- Cleveland has a a couple guys in their mix for a 5th starter, including Jeremy Sowers and Zach Jackson. I'm still not sold on their starting pitching either, especially since Carl Pavano is expected to be their third starter as of right now.

- ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick reports that Jason Schmidt, Shawn Estes, Eric Milton, Claudio Vargas and James McDonald are in the mix for the Dodgers 5th starter spot. Joe Torre likes the way Schmidt has been throwing the ball so far, so that might be something to keep an eye on if he can make a comeback.

- Andruw Jones is off to a rough start with just an infield single in 9 at-bats for the Rangers. Jones has struck out in all of his other 8 at-bats. Looks like Jones might be officially washed up. The Rangers are also still interested in Ben Sheets once he returns to health.

- Jorge Posada's shoulder is bothering him again, but he should be ready to go by March 15th. It would not be good news for the Yankees if Posada is not able to catch 130+ games this season.

- The Royals signed reliever Juan Cruz, who should be the setup man for their closer, Joakim Soria. That should be a nice little 1-2 punch for the Royals, who might be tough to beat if they can actually get some leads going into the 8th.

- Curt Schilling is considering a comeback with either the Cubs or the Rays. No word on whether or not those two teams are actually considering Curt though. Hopefully not.
