2009 NBA Playoffs: Game 5 - Dallas Mavericks 106 San Antonio Spurs 93 (Highlights)

Game 5: Dallas Mavericks 106 San Antonio Spurs 93

Analysis: The Spurs went down without a fight in this series, which is pretty shocking to me. I'm not surprised they lost, but I didn't think the Mavs would run through them so easily. I knew Dirk would have to have a big game for the Mavs to close out this series in San Antonio and that's exactly what he did. 31 points on 11 of 17 shooting was just what the Mavs needed to send the Spurs home. The Spurs were really hurt by the loss of Ginobili, but it's really their own fault that they didn't bring anyone in from free agency that could be a third option for them if one of their big 3 got hurt.

Key Players of The Game

Dirk Nowitzki: Dirk came up with a big 31 points and 9 rebounds for the Mavs. This was far and away his best game of this series and the Mavs will need him to keep playing like that if they want to advance any further.

Josh Howard: Howard was better than Dirk in this series and a main reason why the Mavs were able to beat the Spurs so easily. He finished with 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals, while shooting an efficient 6 of 11 from the floor.

Jason Terry: The 6th man of the year was at it again in this one finishing with 19 points on 7 of 14 shooting off the bench.

Tim Duncan/Tony Parker: Both of them played well again, but nobody else on the Spurs finished in double-figures, and the lack of a consistent third scorer for the Spurs was the story of this series. This might have been Duncan's best game of the series as he finished with 30 points, while shooting 14 of 21 from the floor. Parker finished with 26 points and 12 assists.
